Supporting your emotional & mental health

Welcome to

Jennifer Hager Psychotherapy

Counselling and Psychotherapy online and in-person near Bath and Bradford-on-Avon

I specialise in working with young adults, although I welcome all inquiries from individuals seeking support.

From my dedicated practice I offer:

  • A safe, consistent and confidential space for all;
  • A place where all thoughts and feelings can be brought to, without judgement;
  • A way of exploring experiences, relationships and your identity with empathy and support;
  • A space for reflection: to be listened to and thought about, fostering greater understanding and self-awareness;
  • A belief that change can happen by empowering you to do so.

With a background in teaching, in particular working alongside students with special educational needs, I retrained as a psychodynamic therapist and counsellor. I work privately with individuals and as the Counsellor for a mixed, academy Sixth Form.

I believe that change is possible - not because I have the right solution, but because therapy can support you to make sense of your experiences, in your own way. Together, we create the possibility to think about your story with honesty and self-acceptance.

My areas of interest include:

  • The use of movement to enhance therapeutic outcomes;
  • Understanding the links between brain, body and nervous system when working therapeutically;
  • Anxiety following COVID;
  • Special Educational needs and the links to poor mental health.

Qualifications:

  • Member of the BACP (MBACP)
  • MSC in Psychodynamic Counselling and Psychotherapy with Children and Adolescents
  • Qualified Teacher of Secondary English

As a registered member of the BACP, I adhere to their code of ethics. This includes the requirement to undertake regular supervision of my work, continuing professional development, and hold professional indemnity insurance. I also hold a current DBS certificate.

Whilst a key component of working professionally is providing confidentiality, there are rare circumstances when it may become necessary to share information from a session with a guardian or external professional. These circumstances are usually associated with a concern of serious and / or immediate harm. I would also always aim to discuss the situation directly with my client before taking any action. If you have any concerns about confidentiality, this can be discussed in detail during an initial meeting.

Talking Therapy

It takes courage to come to therapy and perhaps ask the question: what if things could be different; could feel better? During counselling, you will be met with curiosity and support as you undertake the sometimes challenging task of exploring your thoughts, feelings, experiences and relationships as we try to bring greater meaning to them.

Working with me, I endeavour to tune into you, to help reflect and make sense of the experiences shared in our sessions. We create an environment in which emotional safety comes first and you are not alone in facing your difficulties.

How therapy can help

Therapy builds a unique relationship with a person who is not otherwise directly involved in your life.

This can make it feel more possible to explore your thoughts and experiences free from the anxieties and expectations of other relationships.

As confidence builds, I hope you will feel able to explore your story, coming to your own conclusions about past and present experiences and how you can make future changes from a position of understanding and self-awareness.

Practicalities

The first step is arranging an introductory meeting. During this, we can think about why you are considering therapy and how we could work together.

Following this, should you wish to continue to meet, I will offer you a regular session time. Sessions are 50 minutes long and take place either face-to-face or online. The fee for each session is £60. I hold spaces which I can offer at a reduced fee in the case of financial hardship, as discussed case-by-case.

I offer sessions on an open-ended basis, which means your session time remains open to you until an ending is agreed upon. This also means I cannot offer free cancellations and therefore any missed sessions will be chargeable. If you have known absences, these can be talked through. Similarly, my breaks for holidays will be shared with you well in advance.
